Inhalation Techniques for Essential Oils and Aromatherapy

Essential oils are naturally occurring oils that are extracted from plants and trees. These can be extracted from roots, leaves, fruits, seeds and stems. These oils are used in aromatherapy as each of the oils has its own distinct fragrance. Essential oils and aromatherapy aim to improve the general well being of a person through inhalation of the scents.

While inhalation itself is a technique of aromatherapy, there are several techniques under it. If you choose inhalation to be your aromatherapy technique, you should select the technique that will provide you with the desired results. The techniques falling under inhalation include diffusing, steaming, spraying, and dry evaporation.

Note that every technique of inhalation involves use of different devices. Diffusing involves placing essential oil diffuser necklace. Depending on the instructions, you might need to use water in the diffuser or heat to ensure the oils evaporate. There are diffusers that have timers. The essential oils should not be burned directly to avoid interfering with their chemical structure.

Diffuser necklace are preferred by many people because they allow them to wear and go about their activities while sniffing the relaxing fragrances. You can get these in different materials according to preference, and apply the essential oil you want.

In the steaming technique, a few drops of the oil of choice are added to steaming water in a bowl to vaporize the oil. You should cover your head and the bowl with the towel and take in deep breaths. Because this method is effective, one should only add a maximum of two drops. Eyes should be closed during this technique.

Spraying involves adding drops of essential oils into a solution that is water-based. The solution is shaken and then sprayed to deodorize the room or boost moods. Citrus and pine oils are goof mood boosters if sprayed, and peppermint is good for alertness. Always make sure that you shake well to get the desired effect.

Placing a few drops of essential oils on cotton balls or tissues and leaving this to evaporate is what one should do in the dry evaporation technique. If you need a potent dose, you can sniff the essential oil directly from the cotton ball. However, if you desire a mild dose, keep the cotton ball near you, say on your desk when you are working.

Applying these inhalation techniques will allow you to improve your body with essential oils and aromatherapy.
